Due to ever growing popularity of Healing Reiki more and more people looking to find more information about this amazing system of natural healing and self development. Even-though there is a lot of information about Reiki out there, the average person still feels as if something is missing-something hasn’t been told.
The issue we are facing here is due to the nature of Reiki itself and the way we as humans process the information about the world. In order to learn something about anything we need to run it through our senses and to apply some well accepted metrics such as how big, how small, how heavy, warm or cold, liquid-gas-or matter etc.
Unfortunately when it comes to something as the Reiki the above metrics can not be applied and in order to form (educated) opinion about Reiki one doesn’t have much of the choice but to experience it first hand. This has been understood by Reiki community very well and everybody seeking more info about Reiki is encouraged to experience short Reiki Session.
Due to us being unique in many ways everybody’s experience with Reiki was/is is slightly different which than has created some confusion in the field of defining Reiki.
It is goal of this article to point to these differences and use them as the learning tool. We should be aware that just because somebody else had made different experience than ours it doesn’t have to mean that we are wrong since simply put, there is no wrong or wright experience.
Speaking of experiences, let’s now look into what some prominent Reiki Masters think about Reiki.
How Do Prominent Reiki Master Respond To The Question What Is Reiki?
We also were very interested to find the answer to this and did some interesting research. We went out and checked our several reiki sites and here are the findings.
- Our first stop was John Harvey Gray Center for Reiki Healing (www.learnreiki.org). John is longest practicing Reiki Master Teacher who received his entire training from Ms. Takata Hawayo. He is one of the original 22 Reiki Master Teachers trained by Ms. Takata. His site defines reiki as : ” Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is the Japanese word for “universal Life Energy.”
- However, Ms. Pamela Miles- the author of the reiki book “Reiki: A Comprehensive Guide” (www.reikimedecine.org) has very strong feeling if somebody starts with “Reiki is Japanese word meaning universal life energy. She expressed this clearly in her post titled “Reiki is not a word” She recommends to use our hands instead of the words.
- William Land Lee, the founder of Karuna Reiki at his website The International Center For Reiki Training defines reiki as :”Reiki is Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.”
- Our next stop The Reiki Page with David Harron :“Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a method of natural healing based on the application of ULFE (Universal Life Force Energy)
- NCCAM (National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine) defines reiki as “a healing practice originated in Japan”
- At the Reiki Treshold by Richard River Reiki is defined as : “Reiki (Ray-Key) is natural healing technique.”
- James Deacon at Reiki Pages (aetw.org) “Essentially, Reiki is the term used to refer to system of healing and self-development created by Mikao Usui.”
Who Is Right, Who Is Wrong And Does It Matter At All?
Even though some of these answers are different it by no means should be perceived that one is more accurate than the other. We should remind ourselves that the way we experience reiki is our own and it may very well be different from some other experiences out there (just as with about anything else). I do not doubt that if we focus ourselves to find differences we will-just as we would find the similarities if we want to.
As if this wasn’t complicated enough the term reiki is being used interchangeable to refer to both the ULFE as well as the system of natural healing (or technique for relaxation).
How We Define Reiki?
It is our understanding here at Healing Reiki that reiki is the system (or the technique if you will) that is based on the use of unseen ULFE for healing and self development and when we say “Universal” we really mean it-something that is universally available and universally applicable as well.
Even-though the above article has hardly touched the surface when it comes to defining reiki we hope that you did enjoy it and found some valuable information that you can put to good use. It is our understanding that those who are heavily into this subject are likely to want to know more. For those who want to learn more we have provided a lot of how-to articles, videos and resources.
